Biography
My Humble Beginnings
I have been involved in photography since my youth, starting with an Argus 35mm camera that was my father’s. As I progressed in my desire to capture what I saw, I acquires an SLR Olympus and began attempting my own darkroom processing. From black and white proof sheets to, eventually, color prints, I learned the process and hazards of chemical development. As a hobbyist, I was continually frustrated by the set-up time and waste of chemicals because my volume of processing was insufficient to justify continuing my passion. Years later (I hate to say how many), I was introduced to the digital revolution. This rekindled my desire once again.
The Digital Revolution
Let me say that I am an “equipment junkie”. I love the latest and greatest digital equipment, from cameras and accessories to computers. I am always intrigued with the newest camera and computer. Software is my second vice. Whenever a newer version of Photoshop or other related digital imaging programs is introduced, I’m one of the first to acquire it. This may be a hindrance to production, but it is what drives me to pursue the passion for capturing the world around me. Today, I currently us exclusively Nikon cameras, Adobe Photoshop CS3, Lightroom, and Corel Painter X in my exploit of image production.
My Photographic Subjects
I have never felt that I was very good at capturing the smile of a loved one or the moment of a special event. When asked to take pictures of my children or grandchildren, I feel that I fall short of portraying their essence or personalities. Thus, my desire is to capture that which the Creator has placed around us for our sensory enjoyment and wonder. My native home is New Mexico. Having been raised and live in the Southwest, I am awed by the grandeur of vistas one is presented with in New Mexico and Colorado. I am continually intrigued with the colors of Aspen in Fall, mist of early morning mountain scenes, to the mixture of Indian and Mexican culture on the architecture in this country of ever-changing seasons. You will find here in this website pictures ranging from Colorado Aspen, Southwestern Sunsets, and other mountain vistas to Santa Fe adobe structures and a variety of flowers. All these are here for one purpose. I felt that they were there for me to visually enjoy; and in the words of Ansel Adams, “Sometimes I arrive just when God’s ready to have someone click the shutter.”
From Here, Where now….
As I progress on life’s journey, it seems to me that the next step to digital photography is the mixture of image with impression. Photography is an art form as legitimate as an oil or watercolor painting. Why not mix the two. I hope to pursue this. Only time will tell.
